Listed below are answers to common questions we receive at Digby Area Learning Association (DALA). If your question is not answered below, please feel free to contact us for further assistance.

Does it cost anything to attend DALA programs?
No, attending DALA programs is completely free of charge. We are funded by the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning (NSSAL), making all our services accessible to interested adult learners at no cost.
When should I enroll at DALA?
Enrollment at DALA is continuous, meaning you can join our programs at any time throughout the school year. There is no specific enrollment deadline, and you are welcome to enroll when it is most convenient for you. Our school year runs from September to June.
Our office remains open during the summer months, allowing you to come and enroll for the upcoming Fall term.
Do I have to attend class full-time?
No, you have the option to make your own schedule. You can attend class either full-time or part-time, depending on what works best for you. We understand that adult learners often have other commitments like work, family, or personal responsibilities, and we offer flexible learning options to accommodate your needs.
What is the CAEC?
The CAEC (the Canadian Adult Educational Credential) is a Canadian-based series of tests that replaces the GED and allows successful candidates to achieve their grade 12 equivalency. If you have some GED credits already, these will be accepted toward getting your full CAEC certificate.
What are the tests that make up the CAEC?
1. Reading
2. Writing
3. Math
4. Science
5. Social studies
Where can I write the CAEC tests?
CAEC tests (like the GED tests) are offered free of charge to eligible testers at computer-based testing centres through NSCC. Paper test delivery is only available in Nova Scotia Correctional Facilities.
*Calculators can be used and accommodations are available upon request.
Do I need to have a computer to participate in classes?
No, you do not need to own a computer. We have a Chromebook loan-out program so you can access work from home as well as in the classroom.
How old do I have to be to enroll in the Adult Learning Programs?
You must be 18 years or older and have not been in the Public School Program for one year.
What flexible options do you offer?
We understand that many adult learners have commitments such as work, family, or other responsibilities. We offer flexible learning options to accommodate your schedule. We provide daytime classes, evening classes and one-on-one tutoring.
