Listed below are answers to common questions we receive at the Learning Grove Childcare Centre. If your question is not answered below, please feel free to contact us for further assistance.
Yes, you are responsible for paying for all enrolled days, even when your child is absent due to illness or other reasons.
No, we do not offer half-day programs. Our childcare services are available for the full day, and the daily fee remains the same regardless of the duration of your child's attendance.
Learning Grove does not provide subsidies directly, but we are able to accept portable subsidies. Portable subsidies are attached to the child and can be obtained through the Department of Community Services to help offset the cost of childcare. For more information or to apply for a subsidy, please contact our local Department of Community Services office at 902-245-5811. Subsidy applications are also available on-site.
Yes, our staff can administer medication to your child if it is prescribed by a doctor, provided that the medication is in the original container, and you have signed a medication permission form. However, over-the-counter medication such as Tylenol will not be administered at the centre.
If your child becomes ill during the day, a staff member will contact you to arrange for their pickup. If you cannot be reached, we will contact the emergency contact person listed on your child's file. It is important to have a backup plan in place for such situations. Please note that children must be free from illness for 24 hours before returning to the centre.
Childcare fees are due by the end of the first week of each month for that month. Payments can be made in cash or by cheque. Postdated cheques can be left at the centre. Please make cheques payable to the Digby Area Learning Association.
Your child should bring a pair of indoor shoes and at least one change of clothing. If your child is not yet toilet-trained, please provide diapers and wipes as well.
You are welcome to send breakfast with your child as long as it aligns with our nutritional guidelines.
No, we do not serve birthday cakes at the centre due to our nutritional policy, which emphasizes providing food with nutritional value. If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday, please discuss alternative, healthier options with the director.
We allow each child to have one soft toy for rest time. There are also instances when children are requested to bring items from home for show and tell. However, apart from these exceptions, we discourage children from bringing toys from home. Please note that the centre will not be responsible for lost or broken toys.
Children who are not yet toilet-trained can be enrolled in our toddler program (ages 18 months to 3 years). However, toilet training is required for children to enter our preschool program (ages 3 to 5).
Yes, you can authorize individuals to pick up your child by listing them on your child's application. If you need someone not on the authorized list to pick up your child, you must inform the staff in advance. Failure to do so may result in the staff being unable to release your child to that person.
